Cameroonian-German cooperation intensified

In addition to many new insights, the first trip to Cameroon has also intensified the cooperation between the Cameroonian and German project partners. Since October, the partners have been regularly exchanging information on the progress of the project and jointly developing solutions to the challenges of the INTEWAR project.

As the research partner of the consortium, the Wastewater Research Unit (WRU) of the University of Yaoundé I is responsible for the scientific coordination of the work on site. Together with FiW, the WRU is developing a concept for a wastewater treatment plant in which collected PET bottle caps are used as a filling medium in a fixed-bed reactor. The work is being coordinated by Prof. Emmanuel Youmbi and Dr. Valerie Dyumjon Wafo.

As another local partner, the non-governmental organization Ciel Bleu, led by André Akono Essola, is supporting the project by establishing contact with relevant stakeholders and the population. In addition, Ciel Bleu conducts fact-finding trips and field visits in potential pilot areas and organizes workshops with the consortium there. Ciel Bleu’s successful work has already begun to bear fruit in Soa. The presentation of the project in the community has led to lively interest, so that a first workshop on the topics of floods, drought and drinking water treatment could already be held and the Cameroonian-German INTEWAR team will now identify a location for the decentralized PAULA 4000 drinking water treatment plant together with the population.
